The Somerset County Library in a partnership with PA CareerLink offers a series of classes open to everyone looking to improve their tech knowledge. These workshops are perfect for job seekers who wish to set themself apart from other applicants, as well as anyone looking to apply these skills to everyday life. They are designed to prepare you to pass the Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment and earn official certificates that showcase your knowledge.

With our Digital Learn Digital Literacy Outreach Workshops, organizations can request a member of the library staff to present any of the courses available on DigitalLearn.org at their location. Library staff will do their best to accommodate all requests for time, location, and content.

Need a Computer? Laptop?

Free Desktop Computer

Households in Somerset County can request a free refurbished desktop computer to keep. Giveaway Computers are made available through a partnership with Computer Reach, in an effort to make technology accessible to those in need. (Limit 1 per household) 
Equip with a user-friendly Linux Kubuntu 24.04 operating system with an i5 processor, 8gb of ran and a 250 GB hard drive.

Computers come with 2 years of tech support!

Borrow a Work-School-Health Laptop

Request a long-term loan of a laptop for work, health, or educational purposes through the Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP) grant. Laptops are owned and managed by Somerset County Library. Borrowing a laptop is a 2-step process: 1. Apply to Borrow 2. Meet with a Digital Navigator to cover program guidelines, receive account logins, and complete the loan process. 
Laptops are HP Elite x360 830 2-in-1 laptop + tablet with a 13.3″ touchscreen, configured with Kubuntu Linux, a Universal Desktop, 16GB RAM and a 256 SSD Drive

Laptops are to be used specifically for Work, School, and/or Health purposes

To borrow a Work-School-Health Laptop:

1. Complete an online Application to Borrow a Work-School-Health laptop or visit the Somerset County Library service desk and complete an Application.

2. Meet with a Digital Navigator to complete the remainder of the application process and receive your laptop loan.

Get Connected with T-Mobile

Try the Library Internet Checkout Program, offering internet service through T-Mobile for $35 a month. The service is unlimited and unthrottled, and there are no up-front equipment fees or long term contracts. Submit a form to get started today!
